Job Posting-Business Development Officer (BDO)
We are looking for a Business Development Officer (BDO) to join our team to take charge of driving business by focusing on the origination and submission of small business loans using the SBA 504 loan product. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable or proactive in their ability to source small business loan prospects/opportunities while using their established lender contacts, clients, and network. The candidate will work to build new relationships with lenders and clients to increase the opportunities that will ultimately grow SDC’s loan portfolio. BDO must be willing to travel through SDC’s current footprint which includes the state of Alabama, Mississippi, and the Florida Panhandle.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Prospect new business: Identify eligible, credit worthy small business loan prospects/clients.
- Identify and Secure/maintain-existing and new referral sources for SDC such as bankers, realtors, CPAs attorneys and community lenders.
- Maintain (with proper education on the loan product) expert level of understanding the SDC’s loan products and processes.
- Educate small business clients and referral sources on the benefits of SDC’s loan products and processes through presentations and face to face meetings.
- Annual loan production goals to attain.
- Perform site visits and assess collateral as needed.
- Coordinate with SDC’s Marketing team to effectively communicate loan products and services.
- Negotiate terms, structure projects, and gain loan approval from SDC’s Executive Loan Committee and applicable funding source -SBA while using SOP guidelines and SBAC’s established credit policy and procedures.
- Identify potential problems in an existing loan relationship and work with senior leadership on action plans-Hold joint sales calls with management.
- Develop partnerships with industry professionals and foster relationships with local business development organizations. Participate in civic organizations within SDC’s geographic lending footprint.
- Ability to review business plans, financial statements, appraisals, and environmental reports to identify and remedy weaknesses and/or loan program eligibility.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor’s Degree (or in lieu of a degree, a combination of 7 years higher education and relevant work experience)
- 3+ years’ experience in economic development or commercial real estate lending sales role. SBA 504 loan experience a plus but not a requirement.
- Effective business development and selling techniques to maximize sales opportunities.
- Sound credit skills are necessary to evaluate loan applications.
- Ability to effectively market through social media.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Programs Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Detail-oriented with high-level of accuracy, especially when dealing with government forms. Strong organizational skills, prioritization skills.
- Must be willing to travel and have reliable transportation.

Pay: Competitive salary based on experience and skills; excellent benefits
Location: Workplace requirements in Birmingham, AL + minimal travel requirements to SDC’s footprint to include MS and the Florida Panhandle area.
