Position Title: Respiratory Therapist / Sales Representative
Department: Home Care
Reports To: Director of Liberty Home Care
FLSA Status: Exempt
Respiratory Therapist / Sales Representative (RT/SR) is responsible for assessment of patient/client needs and the selection, instruction, and troubleshooting of appropriate equipment and or services provided to meet those needs. Performs customer service functions associated with the sale, rental, and delivery of home care products. Primarily dispenses and completes follow up on Respiratory Equipment such as: Apnea Monitors, Ventilators, Bi-Paps,
C-Paps, Oxygen, etc. Assists in the promotion of HME services and products. The RT/SR is responsible for business development activities which include prospecting to referral sources and end users with the goal of obtaining new patient referrals.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Receives and documents the order for equipment and/or services from the referral source, physician, patient/client, family member, or care giver.
- Obtains additional information and authorizations as needed.
- Verifies insurance coverage and prior authorizations for equipment and supplies.
- Obtains and completes initial paperwork, enters client insurance, medical and demographic information and charges into computer system.
- Learns and utilizes company’s billing and order entry software system and any other relevant information systems.
- Evaluates client’s medical requirements and places appropriate equipment to meet the client's needs at home.
- Discusses Medicare and Insurance requirements and coverage with client's families, physicians and other parties concerned.
- Conducts equipment setup and fittings. Evaluates need of the client and assists client and professionals in the best choice of equipment to meet needs.
- Instructs patients / clients in the proper use and care of equipment according to the written policies and procedures for that equipment.
- Implements any change in course of treatment prescribed by client's physician. Problem solve/troubleshoot with client's and care givers who are experiencing problems.
- Tracks and maintains follow up on preventative maintenance and scheduled visits for respiratory therapy equipment assigned to patients.
- Assesses client’s tolerance, compliance, and satisfaction regarding equipment in use as necessary.
- Acts as a liaison between Liberty Home Care, Care Givers, Physicians and Home Care
Nursing Providers. Completes follow up reports when required.
- Assists with scheduled visits of clients receiving oxygen therapy as needed.
- Responsive to after-hours emergencies and deliveries of equipment and supplies. On Call as needed.
- Assists in the development of policies and procedures especially those relating to respiratory equipment.
- Attends/completes all mandatory in-services.
- Assists in the promotion of Liberty Home Care’s services and products.
- Actively pursues new opportunities for referral and revenue growth. Make both scheduled and cold calls on potential and/ or existing referral sources.
- Actively pursues marketing opportunities which will contribute to the growth and profitability of the company.
- Submit reports to the Vice President that detail current marketing activities, sales calls as well as future plans for marketing activities.
- Meets or exceeds targets set for new growth.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- An Associate Degree from a respiratory therapy program registered by the Board of Regents and/or accredited by the national respiratory therapy professional association.
- At least 2 years’ experience providing respiratory therapy in an acute/sub-acute care facility.
- Home care experience preferred
- Must have excellent communication and prioritizing skills.
- Proficient in communicating with clients, families, physicians, nurses and other team members and the public.
- Ability to call referral sources and be skilled in sales
- Knowledge regarding Medicare regulations and other insurance guidelines and regulations.
- Thorough knowledge and skill related to respiratory care and respiratory equipment.
- Knowledge of client teaching process.
- Responsible and cooperative with patients/families, supervisors, fellow employees.
- Maintains friendly working atmosphere.
- Maintains professional attitude and appearance.
- Utilizes established channels of communication.
- Responds to client issues professionally and promptly and according to policies/procedures.
- Communicates appropriately with all levels of staff.
Licensure/Certifications
- Registered/Registry eligible Respiratory Therapist (CRTT or RRT).
- Must be licensed in NYS.
Working Conditions
