Delta Dental of Iowa invites candidates for Account Manager to work directly with contracted Brokers and Consultants to build, maintain, and improve business relationships with mid-size accounts (51+) to optimize Delta Dental’s market retention and position products for cross selling to existing clients. You will use your strong communication skills to provide consultation based upon knowledge of plan designs and associated information to enhance customer understanding of benefits. You will also facilitate the Request for Proposal (RFP) process.

Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities:

  • Achieve profitable retention and or cross selling goals as established by leadership through positive business partnerships.
  • Meet with clients or brokers face to face quarterly at a minimum to introduce new products, enhancements, regulatory updates, industry news, future initiatives, recommendations, etc.
  • Provide recommendations related to plan designs and rating impact, including explanation of renewals, add on services, ancillary products, and ERISA requirements.
  • Understand fully insured product components relating to benefit design, regulation and underwriting risk development.
  • Display effective presentation skills when presenting proposals and recommendations to the customer, broker and/or consultant.
  • Facilitate the RFP process through effective collaboration with business partners. Develop and communicate a strategic position for Delta Dental to retain the business. Engaging, communicating and coordinating with the appropriate subject matter experts; and articulating Delta Dental’s value proposition compared to competitors.
  • Lead implementation activities for new accounts and facilitate enrollment growth resulting from customer mergers and acquisitions.
  • Document relevant customer/broker information and activities in the Account Management system (CRM) in a timely manner and complete other reports as required.
  • Demonstrate leadership and team skills in leading and supporting the account management team whom they partner with to service clients.
  • Function as a resource for external market changes; clearly communicate these market dynamics to the Leadership team on a semi-annual basis.
  • Coordinate activities between other departments within the organization such as Underwriting, Group Administration, Customer Service, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work experience
  • 2-5 years account management experience
  • Demonstrated presentation and consulting skills
  • Strong problem solving, negotiation and communication skills
  • Experience with a contact management system is preferred
  • Iowa Health, Accident and Life License required or obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Up to 40% Travel in Iowa required
  • Valid driver’s license required
