Overview:
This position qualifies for our flexible workplace options. This role includes the development of new products, modifying existing products, and maintenance of current products based upon financial results and customer acceptance to optimize profit and growth strategies of commercial lines insurance at Grinnell Mutual.

Analyzes commercial lines products performance metrics to provide recommendations, guidance, and oversight to underwriting leadership and other stakeholders with the goal to gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace and anticipate customer needs.
- Recommends innovative solutions to enable improved ease of use, take advantage of emerging technologies, improve pricing sophistication, and anticipate emerging market trends across commercial lines products.
Develops a strategy that aligns product offerings and overall design to target client needs through conducting regular industry, market, and competitor analyses, including detailed segmentations of customers.
Assist in developing relevant product offerings considering rate changes, policyholder retention, evaluating rating components, and understanding customers’ needs.
- Monitors and reports to management and underwriting teams on the competitive, legislative, and regulatory environments in all of our writing territories, as well as identifying emerging threats and risks. Recommends plans to respond.
- Researches and analyzes new product concepts and project results. Incorporates cost/benefit analysis of market opportunities and new initiatives.
Presents information to various audiences with varying backgrounds. May include internal and external groups, senior leaders, and board members. Presentations may be to educate, influence or support recommended changes and market trends.
Responsible for gathering data and compiling information in a format that is easily understood to support recommendations to underwriting leadership.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with of knowledge base in Product Management, Finance/ Accounting, Actuarial analysis or equivalent combination of education and training.
- Background in an Actuarial Science field is preferred to act as a liaison between the business unit of Underwriting and Actuarial Services.
- Prefer five years of product management experience with demonstrated success managing an established product line.
Must posses the ability to understand complex insurance terminology and insurance products. Experience in the property-casualty insurance field is preferred.
- Knowledge of modeling, standard industry software tools, and DOI filings and compliance.
Ability to coordinate and deliver results through people and resources without direct authority. Must be able to work with multiple interruptions.
- Advanced program management, analysis, problem resolution, judgment and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively build teams through, collaboration, relationship and negotiation skills.
Sound judgment and ability to deal with difficult and stressful situations. Must be able to use known facts and figures while incorporating experience to support recommendations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines to advance speed-to-market expectations and meet regulatory requirements.
- Ability to keep a regular work schedule and maintain predictable attendance.
Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers, supervisor, customers and the general public.
- Must be able to travel 25-30% of the time, this may vary on the department demands and primary research activities.

Working Conditions and Physical Efforts:

The position may be performed remotely or at the home office with a work environment of a typical office setting; noise level is relatively quiet and occasional stress is encountered as deadlines approach.
This position requires sitting at a computer monitor for long periods of time. Requires visual acuity and potential eye strain. Repetitive movement is also involved.
Must be able to occasionally lift 10-20 pounds (packages, paper copies).
Frequently works cross-functionally with Actuarial, Underwriting, Sales, Accounting, Claims, Customer Service and Enterprise Solutions to improve risk rating, efficiency, and effectiveness of products, and occasionally works with outside customers and agents.
