Position Summary
Siltronic manufactures hyper-pure silicon wafers for the semiconductor industry; including microprocessors, memory components for information processing, low-resistivity circuits for the automotive and telecommunications industries, and high voltage applications. Silicon wafers are the basis for these devices used in everyday objects such as smartphones, computers, navigation systems, and displays.
We are looking for an Applications Engineer who will be a technical liaison to Siltronic’s external customers, and customer advocate with internal business units in the manufacture of silicon wafers. The successful candidate will work on extremely complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results in time-critical situations. Leadership is essential as you will be assigning work, training other engineers, and resolving problems. Requires knowledge of silicon manufacturing and metrology, device physics, and semiconductor fabrication.
Decision-Making:
- Determine testing methodology and proper analysis of results for the customer development work (R&D); plan timelines, determine resources, and oversee the execution of global Qualification strategies.
- Determine strategy for achieving Siltronic goals and targets; identify any customer issues preventing Siltronic from achieving corporate goals.
- Utilize internal knowledge and experience to coordinate investigation and resolution of complex technical issues.
- Consider short and long-term consequences of project implementation and use of organizational best-known methods.
- Provide leadership and training to Siltronic colleagues interacting with customers.
Essential Function/Major Responsibilities:
- Organize, direct, and control engineering project teams to further Siltronic corporate goals.
- Provide input and determine strategies for the introduction of new products, technology, and metrology.
- Represent Siltronic in key customer tours, meetings, and audits. Provide training and knowledge to Applications and Quality Engineering colleagues.
- Follow industry trends and make recommendations regarding new technology, marketing and product strategies.
- Diagnose root causes of customer issues including critical line down, yield deterioration, and exceptional productivity loss.
- Provide a leadership role within the company to prioritize and implement customer driven issues and projects.
- Anticipate and deliver key development projects, in accordance with customer needs and expectations.
- Seek, propose, and execute new joint development opportunities between customer and Siltronic, in order to foster active cooperation between customer and Siltronic internal partners.
- Assign and delegate engineering tasks to others in relation to process tests and procedures.
- Represent the company in industry task forces, committees, and roadmap committees as needed.
Position Requirements:
- B.S. degree in Engineering, Physics or equivalent, Masters, PhD and/or MBA preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years of related silicon or device industry experience.
- Excellent ability to work well with others, facilitate workgroups or teams, and control and document work sessions and meetings.
- Demonstrated project management and leadership ability.
- Solid understanding of silicon technology and defects.
- Knowledge and understanding of statistics, Statistical Process Control (SPC), testing methodology (DOE), 5-step Problem-solving, and 8D methodology.
- Excellent technical writing and oral communication skills.
- Time flexibility, when required.
- Domestic and international travel required.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk at will, communicate via telephone, and use the a computer for various amounts of time throughout the day.
- Must pass a drug screen (excluding marijuana) and background check.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
