Associated Scaffolding

Founded in 1947, Associated Scaffolding Company is a full-service access equipment and safety supply company. We have seven locations across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee, as well as an online store. Each of our locations is home to a retail store with a wide selection of PPE, fall protection, ladders, and other job site supplies. We take pride in providing top-quality supplies and equipment that meets or exceeds OSHA requirements.

In 2008 we expanded our retail sales force for the sale of safety and site supplies to contractors across the southeast. The retail sales team includes outside and inside representatives who have the goal of growing the sales, knowledge, and customer base for all of our retail products.


The Outside Retail Sales Representative

The Outside Retail Sales Representative is responsible for driving retail sales within their territory. This individual generates new business and grows our current customer base while spending a large amount of time traveling between customers' offices and work sites to develop and maintain customer relationships. Receiving requests/inquiries from customers and providing information and price quotations to customers is a daily responsibility along with processing sales and coordinating with other departments through to the completion of the customer's request.


General Objectives

  • Maintain a relationship and grow business with the current customers in the assigned territory.
  • Develop new customer relationships and business in assigned territory.
  • Maintain open communications with branch personnel, managers, and office.
  • Represent the company in professional and industry organizations.
  • Work closely with the Retail Sales Manager and Branch Manager.
  • Continually meet or exceed sales targets and customer expectations.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Respond to all customer inquiries.
  • Provide timely quotes to customers that are accurate in terms of pricing and products requested.
  • Identify prospective customers in assigned territory.
  • Following up on potential sales leads provided by a retail sales manager, branch manager, vendors, and other sales team members.
  • Meet face-to-face with potential and current customers to grow sales numbers, and educate them on new products, promotions, and services.
  • Identify the goals of customers, and present products in a way that meets or exceeds their expectations.
  • Perform discovery calls, customer research, and follow-up calls.
  • Provide product demonstrations, training, and presentations.
  • Conduct promotional programs and customer focus groups.
  • Follow industry trends to identify new opportunities for potential sales.
  • Monitor the industry competitors, new products, and market conditions to understand customers' specific needs.
  • Recommend marketing strategies to increase the company's market share and increase sales.
  • Maintain an accurate record of all leads, customer accounts, and sales.
  • Attend all sales meetings.
  • Monitor and evaluate accounts receivable for your customers.
  • Assist the Credit Manager with collections when necessary.

Required Attributes and Skills:

  • Must maintain a valid in-state driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication in the English language.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in keyboarding and the operation of a 10-key calculator.
  • Proficiency with word processing and excel spreadsheets.
  • One year of experience specific to construction, safety, and/or sales.
  • Excellent negotiator & influencer.
  • Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills to quickly answer customers' questions and solve their potential issues.
  • Self-discipline and time-management skills to ensure tasks and deadlines are regularly met.
