Full description of the position

Position Summary:

The major responsibility of the position is growing existing business as well as identifying and developing new accounts within the applicable market. In addition, the individual is responsible for acquiring and maintaining market information, handling any customer issues that arise, aiding in the collection of receivables, and providing accurate sales reporting and forecasting.

Required to be an independent self-starter that has a broad knowledge of the construction aggregates industry, building products, and contracts. The individual will need to work well independently and also as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Actively Promote E.R. Jahna’s Core Values of Safety, Quality Control, Environmental Stewardship, Employee Satisfaction, Customer Satisfaction and Operational Excellence.
  • Make general sales calls and visits to existing and prospective customers to ensure their needs are being met and identify additional business opportunities.
  • Maintain daily call logs and customer information within the CRM platform.
  • Resolve any customer complaints or problems in a timely and professional manner.
  • Acquire new customers by leveraging existing relationships to identify new customer leads. Make cold calls when possible.
  • Learn various customer segments and develop new areas and opportunities to grow the existing customer base.
  • Work as a team with other sales team members to transfer leads and manage overlapping accounts.
  • Communicate price information to customers and promote the overall sales strategy set forth by the VP of Sales.
  • Deliver material samples from the mine to customers as needed.
  • Answer technical questions and facilitate communication with the QC department.
  • Build a good understanding of concrete products and have a desire for continued learning.
  • Attend and be active in industry groups and associations.
  • Routinely monitor upcoming opportunities through clipping services, news, articles, advertisements, and any other media that might result in a bid or generate a lead.
  • Distribute professional bids and proposals within several market segments.
  • Facilitate the customer acquisition process including credit application approval/denial, insurance certificates, account setup, purchase orders etc.
  • Generate reports for upper management and submit on a timely basis as required.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and carry out collections as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills with co-workers, customers, and vendors (verbal and written)
  • Ability to quickly build a rapport with customers
  • Knowledge of local areas and market dynamics
  • Ability to remain organized while handling multiple projects/tasks
  • Strong proficiency in computers and in all Microsoft Office products
  • Prior experience with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) program a plus
  • Understand aggregate logistics and work with freight carriers ensuring overall customer satisfaction
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to negotiate with customers and suppliers

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Some exposure to dust, noise, and extreme temperatures
  • Long periods of driving
  • Willingness to travel overnight
  • As this position visits active Sand Mines and other similar sites, all employees will be expected to follow Safety Procedure

Qualifications, Experience and Educational Requirements

  • 2-4 years of sales experience (aggregates, cement, ready mix, construction, manufacturing and/ or building industry is preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Proven customer service background
  • Must be able to meet insurance requirements: over 21 with a clean driving record
  • Previous experience with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
  • Previous exposure to construction materials (concrete, aggregates, etc.) preferred

This position reports to the VP of Sales.
