We are growing our Commercial Lines Production Underwriter team in our Jacksonville, Florida office. Our production team is responsible for new business growth while following underwriting guidelines when placing business. This is a hybrid role and requires you to be in the office 50% of the week.

Since 1952 Shelly, Middlebrooks & O’Leary, Inc. has been providing both admitted and Excess & Surplus Lines brokerage markets to independent insurance agents. For more than 50 years agents have chosen SMO to underwrite unique risks in order to complete their customer’s insurance portfolio. SMO is a wholesale insurance agency based in Jacksonville, Florida. Our programs can successfully insure exposures the standard market avoids. Our underwriters are among the most technically proficient anywhere and are right at home analyzing the unique and complex risks. They welcome new challenges and have the flexibility of form and rate to respond with the most efficient, effective solutions. Specialties: Commercial Transportation, Commercial Casualty& Property, Personal Lines, Professional Liability.

Duties include:

• Underwriting new and renewal business in accordance with insurance company guidelines.
• Meeting production goals
• Communicating with producers, management, team members and insuring companies regarding policy and submission issues using excellent customer service.
• Building relationships with our insurance company partners and customers.
• Some travel for education, seminars, agency, and carrier visits.

Minimum Qualifications :

• Basic math skills
• Up-to-date technology skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Internet
• Excellent customer service
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Evaluate information provided and make decisions appropriate for each account
• Self-starter and self-motivated
• Strong sense of urgency
• Confidentiality
• AA Degree (preferred)
• Customer Service experience for 2 years
• Knowledge of Microsoft Products- Outlook, Teams, Excel
• 4-40 Customer Service Representative License or 2-20 General Lines Insurance Agent License (preferred)
• Knowledge of sales or insurance marketplace (preferred)

• 8:30 am to Noon and 1:00 pm- 5:00 pm
• The office is closed from Noon - 1:00 pm for lunch

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
