Full description of the position

Merlyn Mind is a "Remote First" VC-backed AI EdTech startup that brings the latest advances in AI to Education to help improve the lives of teachers and ultimately the learning outcomes of their students. Our leadership team includes talents from IBM, Amazon, Facebook, Roku, Broadcom, HP, Allen Institute for AI, and more. We have come together to build on a unified product experience for an extremely urgent mission – building a digital assistant for teachers, to untether teachers from the desk and help them with managing classroom technologies.
Make an immediate impact on how students are educated in classrooms by helping us develop the next generation of our AI powered hardware. As an applications engineer, you'll be an integral part of our engineering team and will directly interact with hardware, software and firmware engineers. You will be the person who sets up and tests our products in different use cases while documenting your results, sharing your user experience and making recommendations for improvements.
With guidance from engineering team, test new AI SW features running on various HW platforms and document results. Provide support for existing products in the field as well as new product commissioning for school districts. Assist in daily duties in the office such as testing, programing, and shipping of demonstration samples.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up various customer HW configurations and thoroughly test product's functionality
  • Properly document test results and communicate findings with greater organization
  • Create and execute demonstrations which highlight product functionality and/or issues
  • Document and maintain updates to tasks in Jira
  • Generate instructional documentation on how to properly connect/use 3rd party products in conjunction with company products
  • Visit customer sites and assist field personnel in unboxing and commissioning of new products
  • Troubleshoot product failures in the office and/or in the field
  • Attend conferences and assist sales personnel in setting up demonstrations and answering technical usage questions
  • Assist office personnel in day-to-day tasks which may include boxing and shipping evaluation or demo units
  • As the user of the product in different settings, provide insight on UX and recommend improvements




Job Skills and Qualifications

  • BS or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other related engineering disciplines is preferred with 2yrs of prior work experience.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents such as data sheets, wiring diagrams, and written work instructions
  • Ability to conduct tests under Windows, Android, Linux, macOS, and iOS
  • Must be hands-on, self-motivated, and able to mutli-task
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively contribute in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Proficiency in the English language
  • Nice to have but not required capabilities:
  • Reading electronics schematics
  • Developing automated processes for repetitive tests
