JOB SUMMARY:

This is a remote position that will support our US Northeast customers. The Regional Sales Manager is responsible for directly calling on, selling to Short-Line Railroads, Regional Railroads, Contractors, Ports and Industrial Accounts. Shall assist in creating strategies that meet or exceed on a consistent basis the annual operating and rolling strategic plans for each of L.B. Foster’s North American Rail Business product lines, (Rail Distribution, Allegheny Rail Products, Transit Products, Trackwork, CXT Ties, Rail Technologies and Salient Systems), to any extent possible, for the primary Railroad(s) and customer base.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Involvement and oversee the bidding and quoting processes of the Customer base through self ownership, and the participation of the Customer Service Group.
  • Follow-up on a timely basis and report competitive results.
  • Review past bid/quote history for like items or product in conjunction with the Customer Service Group and the Product Managers.
  • Review the bid/quote specifications and ensure that all angles and options are reviewed and understand prior to bid/quote time to ensure LBF presents the most competitive bid possible.
  • Responsible for calling directly and developing and executing key account strategies for the customer base.
  • Develop relationships with the various contractor and railroad department executives, at least to the V.P. level, including Purchasing, Mechanical and Engineering (Maintenance of Way and Signal), as well as AVP, General Directors, Directors (Division Engineer) and Managers (Roadmasters), and will be accountable for ensuring that through those relationships, LBF has the most competitive and advantageous opportunities to conduct business with same.
  • Responsible for management for assigned primary account(s) A/R, annual operating expenses in conjunction with Product Managers and LBF’s Credit Department.
  • Utilize our Contact Relationship Management (CRM) system (SalesLogix) to accomplish the following reporting requirements; inputting of quotations, sales call reports, updating all customer contact information and entering any competitive information.
  • Responsible for in-depth product knowledge (50% technical proficiency in every rail business product line), while being able to rely on Product Managers/Engineers/Technical Sales Group in of each of L.B. Foster’s Rail Business product lines.
  • Collaborate with the Rail Group to ensure that all opportunities (products and services alike) and existing business in the territory are being attended to properly.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, & LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, or related field required
  • Eight plus years of sales experience required
  • Railroad and/or Transit Agency industry experience preferred

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Required to have an excellent understanding of Transit Agency and Class I Railroad safety practices and must become a member of e-RAILSAFE
  • Outside field work will be necessary from time to time as well as overnight travel on average of 50% of the time.
  • Customer entertainment and trade show attendance is required when and where necessary.
