Sales Engineer- Municipal & TEM in Council Bluffs, IA
The Sales Engineer- Municipal & TEM role will be responsible to train under the mentorship of the Director of Sales, and other dealership personnel assigned to mentor specific functions and disciplines.
To create longstanding business relationships between the company and government, municipalities, utilities and Truck Equipment Manufacturers (TEMs) for the purposes of supplying them with trucks and trailers.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Complete the MPG training curriculum within 12 months.
Complete TMI within 12 months.
Attend all MPG, Peterbilt, and third party training classes as assigned.
Study truck and equipment specifications to improve knowledge of product performance and application.
Assist with MPG marketing activities.
Develop customer relationships.
Develop customer presentations.
Maintain and monitor the bidding processes of each of the municipalities and follow through on bids.
Build a truck within the proper programs to create the truck according to the request for proposal (RFP), with a list of possible options that were not accounted for in the RFP.
Use our vendors and find other vendors that can help supply our municipality customers to fulfill all of their needs for trucks and trailers.
Monitor the truck/trailer as its being built by the factory to ensure that changes are addressed.
Collaborate with fellow employees and suppliers.
Apply basic engineering principles and the desire to gain knowledge of specific technical applications in order to provide feature and benefit solutions to customers.
Follow up on all details pertaining to orders and transaction paperwork.
Secure customer commitments.
Produce “walk around” marketing videos for all used trucks.
Produce “walk around” marketing videos for new trucks.
Attend sales and training meetings.
Attend industry events/open houses/golf outings.
Maintain professional appearance.
Other tasks as assigned.

Education
Four year engineering degree
Computer Skills
Moderate to intermediate computer skills with fundamental computer operations, spreadsheets, word processing, database, e-mail, and CRM software.
Language Skills
The ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, legal documents, and government regulations
The ability to write reports, and business correspondence.
The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, common inquires, or complaints, from customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
The ability of performing basic math as well as calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, statistics, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to forecast customer demand based on a varied set of data and supply directional stocking guidance to the sales manager and director of sales. The ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. Will need to gain a mastery of technical formulas for weight distribution, turning radius, bridge law, swing clearance and body integration.
Reasoning Ability
The ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting, and possessing an understanding of the appropriate time to speak.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must have a valid CDL driver’s license or be able to attain a CDL driver’s license within six months of hire date and meet insurability requirements with the Company’s insurance company.
Work towards Professional Engineer (PE) certification (5-6 years)
Travel
Three days per week or more should be allotted for contacting new and established customers to follow up on appointments that were previously scheduled. (approximately 60%). The majority of all travel would be local (home every evening).
