Full description of the position

American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) is seeking a Sales Manager in Mobile, AL to drive business growth across the sales team by fostering a thriving environment that positively impacts new and existing customers. This role will be responsible for positive long-term relationships with customers, sales growth, and the success and trajectory of the sales team. They will accomplish this by analyzing the market, understanding the sales team strategy, and planning for expansion with current and potential customers. This will be measured by defining metrics for the sales team to strive towards and increased customer satisfaction and sales growth.

We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, competitive, customer-focused, detail-oriented, and unafraid to take initiative. The ideal candidate will be articulate with exceptional communication skills and possesses prior experience within the barge industry.

What you will be doing... Your IMPACT

  • Develop and maintain long-term relationships with customers through regular contact meetings as well as in person visits to docks/terminals.
  • Provide subject matter expertise with the barge experience to communicate with customers regarding orders, daily traffic/barge movements, river conditions, operating delays, and address any concerns.
  • Provide and support sales forecasts for operating budgets and assist department leadership with the implementation of strategic sales and marketing plans.
  • Track weekly call reports and quoting/contracts including new opportunities, marketing of ACBL equipment, and renewal of spot/term contracts.
  • Provide feedback to the sales team and executive team members related to market trends and market intelligence through regular customer contact and networking at industry events.
  • Utilize metrics and traffic pattern data to drive sales activity, improve loaded miles, and increase front/backhaul percentages.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and serve as customer advocate to ensure needs are addressed but meet the requirements of ACBL best practices.
  • Represent ACBL at trade shows, conventions, conferences, and other events.

What we are looking for...

You will need to have:

  • 8+ years of barge and/or boat logistics or transportation industry experience
  • Willing to be on call and travel to customers and clients.
  • Experience with financials and mathematical figures and calculations
  • Reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong personal accountability and goal-orientation
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication skills
  • Planning, organization, and problem-solving skills

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • B.S. degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
  • Experience working in a logistics, operations management role.
