Overview
The Director of Business Development works under the general direction of the General Manager of the Kaman Aerospace Jacksonville (KAJ) and is responsible for providing leadership and coordination of the division's new business development, customer relations, proposals management functions. He/She/They will develop and lead the execution of capture plans to accomplish the goals of the KAJ Strategic Plan. The successful candidate will deeply understand our product offerings and have the creativity to propose new solutions to meet customer needs. He/She/They have experience driving to desired outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
New Business Development:
Identify, develop, track and close new business opportunities through contacts with prime contractors or government agencies. Provides preliminary assessments relative to the company's business. Requires preparation of a yearly product business plan in addition to formulating strategic directions, and assessment of competition. Maintain an in-depth understanding of the product, including product characteristic advantages, disadvantages, limitations and applications. Develop and lead the execution of capture plans to accomplish the goals and tactics of the KAJ Strategic Plan.
Customer Relations:
Establish and maintain liaison with key customers through personal visits and other methods of communication. Anticipate and fulfill customer needs to ensure satisfaction, continue business and fulfillment of company contract commitments. Be the voice of the customer within Kaman. Manage and contribute to strategic meetings. Act as advisor to programs, engineering, contracts, and finance departments, etc., on matters involving customers, information and relations.
Proposals:
Responsible for the overall coordination and preparation of capture efforts to include setting and publishing strategies, kick-off meetings explaining the opportunities to the business. Establish metrics and statistics pertaining to win / loss, and other relevant data. Support lean initiatives in lead-time reduction and other improvements to the proposal process.
Marketing:
Responsible for the overall coordination and preparation of marketing activities. KAJ lead representative on the corporate marketing counsel. Conduct the requisite research by identifying potential markets and analyze market trends as early as possible.

Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree is preferred.
Experience:
- 10 years of related experience in sales, marketing, and/or business development positions
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to create and execute on growth oriencted, strategic sales plan in the Aerospace industry
- Proven history of identifying and closing deals
- Market analysis skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Available to travel extensively, domestic and foreign, as required
