Job Summary:


We are seeking a highly experienced Managing Director, Operational Strategy & Delivery to lead the Operations, Treasury, and Vendor Management functions for Liberty Mutual Investments (LMI). This role will report to the COO of LMI and will be part of the Global Investment Solutions (GIS) leadership team.

The ideal candidate for this role will be a dynamic leader who can empower a future-focused organization across Operations, Treasury, and Vendor Management for LMI through partnerships across the organization. This leader will act as an organizational change agent to maintain existing operations and processes while bringing a strategic vision on how capabilities, processes, and interactions can be delivered more efficiently or effectively in the future to focus our employees on value-add functions and partnerships.


Requirements
:

  • As a dynamic leader, brings a dual focus on maintaining current operational activities, while articulating a vision for how to rethink capabilities and processes in the future.
  • The incumbent will focus on delivering key investment, treasury, and vendor management operations capabilities, while maintaining a strong control environment, understanding the impact of operations, technology, and investing in talent.
  • Drives the next generation of the ‘Treasury Toolkit’ of capabilities to allow an enhanced view of liquidity in a scalable fashion. Evaluates and executes liquidity and funding requirements, collateral, and banking relationships.
  • Experience managing core back-office activities, including familiarity with cash and liquidity management and overall payment operations. Deliver operational excellence for trading, settlement, IBOR/ABOR accounting, and data integrity.
  • Leads operational vendor management activities, including payments, contract negotiations, and overall performance monitoring to drive best-in-class practices to support the broader LMI organization. Evaluates the long term model to optimally interact with and manage partner relationships across LMI.
  • Responsible for ensuring the department provides timely and accurate information to internal (LMI, Corporate, etc.) or external (regulators, auditors, etc.) customers
  • Focuses on process improvements that result in scalable, repeatable and efficient processes while shifting the operational focus to value added functions and partnership.
  • Create environment where employees love their work and partner to create exceptional results
  • Acts as a product manager for key technology and process initiatives impacting investment and treasury operations, and partners effectively with LMI Technology and Business Agility teams to provide inputs on key programs, as needed.
  • Stays up to date on changing technology, as well as the investment, treasury, and vendor management environment within the company.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication between asset class owners, investment finance, and corporate. Uses relationships to get answers to questions to provide useful information to management with a focus on investment results and operational time to market.
Qualifications
  • Experience leading operations in a large, complex financial business. Experience driving operational efficiency and scale through hybrid capability delivery models.
  • A proven track record in leading and executing a global operations team with diverse investment portfolios (Public & Private investments) and effectively driving a high performing team, including collaboration and oversight of outsourced or co-sourced capabilities.
  • Experience managing and improving a variety of vendor and outsourcing partnerships.
  • Strong leadership experience including building and motivating teams
  • Experience and interest in the investment domain (asset classes, portfolio construction, and trading)
  • Strong experience building out, articulating, and delivering on business cases to improve operational efficiency, strengthen institutionalized processes, and enhance the employee experience.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including negotiation, facilitation, influencing, and consensus building skills
  • High degree of flexibility and ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization with diverse backgrounds
  • Strong desire to drive change, and ability to adapt to change quickly
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, MBA preferred; 15+ years of relevant experience.
