JOB SUMMARY
The Area General Manager (AGM) will lead and drive a world class performance culture in dealership operations through our associates and dealers. Specifically, the AGM position is responsible for execution related to market representation planning, increasing market share and customer retention, and ensuring exceptional sales and service experiences for Toyota customers. In addition, the AGM is accountable for working through their teams to assist our dealers in building a better business and positively impacting franchise value at each store. This position is under the leadership of (and reports to) the Vice President, Field Operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Execute a comprehensive market representation plan with specific actions related to new facility/renovations, relocations, management changes, and potential buy/sell opportunities; partner with Vice President, Market Representation & Dealer Development to support retail capacity requirements, performance improvement, and succession planning; goal is for all dealers to meet or exceed Toyota Dealer Agreement (TDA) requirements
- Champion Strategic Improvement Plan (SIP) and General Manager Evaluation (GMe) programs; leverage with participating stores and be a catalyst to drive positive change and sustainment of key performance metrics.
- Align Area objectives with GST vision and strategy
- Shape and develop plans to deliver on business objectives
- Evaluate current dealer operations, identify opportunities, and be a catalyst to drive positive change
- Collaborate to develop solutions with Area team and dealers to improve operational efficiencies and increase market share, customer retention, dealer profitability, and return on sales
- Emphasize building a better business (lean, efficient); add value and make the AGM position a differentiator for GST
- Develop appointment culture across dealership - fixed and variable
- Expedite the new vehicle shopping and purchasing experience; drive dealer engagement to leverage walk-in, phone, and digital lead opportunities.
- Leverage new technologies with dealers and teams to provide a customer-obsessed buying experience.
- Improve the service & parts culture at our dealerships by delivering more value-added, convenient, and quality services in an expeditious manner; partner with Fixed Operations leadership and support resources to develop dealership personnel, revolutionize the customer experience and, ultimately, sell more parts and service to customers that come back because of an exceptional prior experience
- Innovate and lead in all of these areas
- Coordinate and direct monthly meetings by Area, District (AGM discretion) to communicate strategies and tactics for monthly sales and marketing campaigns; this responsibility includes a working knowledge of all plans regarding advertising, traditional & digital marketing, and incentives
- Identify key areas of communication for presentation to the dealers which will improve their planning and performance
- Foster an open and frank environment for dealers to provide input; identify and communicate dealer concerns to appropriate parties within GST and follow up accordingly
- Other duties as assigned.
- Develop and train Area team to achieve individual and team results
- Consistent coaching and counseling for each Area associate
- Create, track, and sustain a comprehensive development plan for each Area associate
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises four or more employees. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience requirements:
- Bachelor's degree with 15 years in the field or in a related area; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Must be willing to relocate to and within the Gulf States Toyota Region (Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, & Oklahoma)
- Demonstrate leadership, strategic planning, team building ability, and coordination skills
- Demonstrate knowledge of automotive industry, understanding of dealership operations, and current practices
- Demonstrate empathy for dealers and a genuine appreciation for dealers operations
- Ability to influence others (negotiating skills, persuasiveness, & tenacity to follow)
- Ability to promote, coordinate, and drive change
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written
- Ability to teach and facilitate learning
- Ability to speak and present effectively to large and small groups

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The associate is frequently required to travel to other sites, including out-of-state, where applicable, for business purposes. A large amount of this travel involves driving a company vehicle. The associate must frequently move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The associate will regularly be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, and outside weather conditions. The noise level for this position will vary and the associate may be exposed to loud noise levels.
TRAVEL REQUIRED
The job requires significant domestic travel (up to 50% of the time). As a result, the duties for this position occur in various places including, but not limited to an office environment, car dealerships, and semi-industrial settings.
