Job Description:

This position is part of the Pharma Individualized Medicines Team in the Pharma Cell and Gene Therapy (PTC) organization responsible for the process development, manufacture and supply of individualized cell and gene therapies. Innovative therapies and strategic collaborations with our global CGT partners ensures growth opportunities that are uncommon in scale and scope to directly impact the delivery of truly transformational cell and gene therapies.

The PTC Genomics team is seeking a Principal Technical Development Scientist (Genomics) to lead development and implementation of cutting-edge genomic technologies supporting Roche’s diverse cell and gene therapy portfolio. The core technical team is composed of scientists working in a highly dynamic environment across a variety of clinical programs and core functions. The candidate is expected to collaborate extensively with Genentech Research and Early Development, Pharma Technical Development, Pharma Technical Cell and Gene Therapy, Regulatory, Quality and Manufacturing within Roche. The position would suit an individual with strong biological and computational capabilities and excellent communication and collaboration skills.

The Genomics Principal Technical Development Scientist’s responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide subject matter expertise in the design, verification and validation of a broad range of next-generation sequencing (NGS) based processes in alignment with product core strategy and milestones from Technical Development teams.

  • Lead end to end development and optimization of new and existing NGS assays and processes that are ready for scale-up and automation, using cutting edge nucleic acid & library preparation and next generation sequencing using various sequencing platforms.

  • Support authoring and review of genomics technical portions of regulatory submissions and provide technical support to quality teams for specific CGTs

  • Write and review reports, technical documents and presentations to support NGS assay development, qualification, validation and transfer.

  • Represent PTC Genomics to internal and external stakeholders including Research and Early Development, Pharma Technical Development and corporate partners

  • Mentor and train junior scientists, interns or associates on technical projects

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences (genomics, molecular biology, systems biology, synthetic biology, biochemistry, and/or cancer biology)

  • 5+ years of postdoctoral experience in applying genomic approaches to solve complex biological problems in pharma/biotech or clinical environments

  • Deep experience in wet lab and dry lab environments in genomics applications and NGS technologies for analysis of DNA, RNA, protein including genome-wide, single-cell and targeted approaches like RNAseq, Whole-Genome, Whole-Exome Sequencing and ScRNAseq.

  • Must have excellent communication and people skills to work collaboratively in a highly matrixed environment and clearly communicate across diverse audiences with a range of technical knowledge

  • Self driven and comfortable with changing priorities and a fast paced environment.

Nice to have Qualifications:

  • Experience with documentation requirements for genomics workflows in non-clinical vs clinical environments with CLIA-CAP other quality or regulatory requirements

  • Substantial technical experience with analysis and interpretation of NGS data including but not limited to WES/WGS/RNAseq applications in cancer biology or immuno-oncology based cell and gene therapies

  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with multiple products and technologies

  • Knowledge of scientific and engineering principles for drug development and cGMP requirements

Relocation benefits are approved for this posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $117,700 - $218,500.

Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
