Shift: M-F 8-4 Full-time only , 2 Saturdays per Month req. from 9am - 1pm. with overtime pay.

Company: Shapiro Metal Supply is a 5th generation family-owned company established in 1904. We stock a large assortment of metal types, shapes and sizes that we make readily available to our customers, and we offer a limited selection of fabrication work - primarily consisting of cutting custom dimensions across straight lines. Our customers range from Nationwide companies to individuals working on projects at home, with some of our larger customer segments including Racecar Fabricators as well as Machine Shops and Facility Repair Companies.

Job Description: For this Inside Sales position it would be your job to assist our customers in their purchases of metal products. Customers can place orders with us over the phone or through email, but we are also open-to-the-public for customers to receive instantaneous service or select the exact items that they are needing - we often encourage customers to come to our facility. Before someone can independently communicate with customers there are many areas that they must be educated in, including: metal types, industry lingo, company processes, etcetera... We as a company understand this learning curve and have a team of 6 sales reps with combined experience of 50 years to teach the right candidate! When all of this learning is said and done, there is a good chance that you will accomplish and understand things that you have not previously.

Work Environment: Shapiro Metal Supply has one location where all employees work, including the owners. Being that our warehouse and office are part of the same facility there is a good amount of interaction between the two groups. There is also a lot of interacting with customers in these spaces, many of which are from blue-collar backgrounds. Our policies are generally on the more relaxed and informal side of things... At Shapiro Metal Supply the owners are always accessible for sharing your ideas and expressing your concerns. Wages: When starting in this position, a new hire will be paid a base wage of $20/hour, with a probationary period pertaining to other benefits. Your sales will be tracked and when it mathematically makes sense in your favor, you will be switched to a base wage of $16/hour plus a 1.5% commission. This switch will allow the potential to earn up to 80k annually but will never be less than $20/hour... Depending on the candidate this switch could take between 4 and 8 months.

Training: During the training process you will begin by watching and listening, in the office and possibly in the warehouse as well. The next step will be to work with customers who are present at our facility, with the possibility of seeking help from those around you. Then you would move on to speaking with customers on the telephone. Once this process begins, there will be new customers who begin to ask for you personally, with whom you can develop relationships and provide exceptional service to. This will eventually involve speaking with our vendors to order materials and coordinating with other companies to keep our customers happy. This job is a continuous learning process into the world of metal and self-governed efficiency!

Requirements: This job first and foremost requires availability during the hours listed at the top of this posting. The next most crucial requirement would be a solid understanding of mathematics. If for example, one of our items come as a 20 foot piece and a customer is needing 57 pieces that are 16-5/8" long, it would be necessary to calculate how many of our pieces would be required to process the order. Customer service would be the next most important skill, with an understanding of how to communicate over the telephone and progress through the stages of order placement. Past these skills would be the ability to understand the unconventional flow of work in our single-location family-owned business, and give our customers reasonable expectations. And, as previously mentioned no two days are the same, so flexibility is a valued skill here, wherein you may be working on a very large order and have a small task interrupt your concentration. This job also requires an individual to repeatedly sit and stand over the course of the day, as well as occasionally move items, or inspect items or stock levels in the warehouse. Additionally, during any down time you may be requested to perform office filing or other forms of organization.

Previous Experiences: Members of our current sales staff have previous experience as either a: Sales Consultant, Systems Consultant, Call Center Customer Service Rep, Help Desk Tech Support, Warehouse Manager, Restaurant Manager, Store Manager, Warehouse Supervisor, Restaurant Waiter, and/or an Installer.
