Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for a Vice President of Water Sales. The Vice President (VP) is responsible for leading a Team to drive aggressive growth across multiple markets. The VP is responsible for developing a world class sales team, managing and coaching two directors, and regional sales managers and agents, and is responsible for growing market share across the country on an annual basis. The VP provides leadership, strategic planning, and execution of all sales activities to ensure the commercial organization achieves maximum profitability and growth in line with the Atkore’s vision and goals. This position is a leadership role that reports directly to the VP/GM of the PVC Pipe and Conduit business.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Manufacturing, and/or related discipline and must have a minimum 7-10 years of sales management experience in B2B market segment. Proven water industry or related experience, Experience managing remote sales teams preferred. Proven track record of success in effectively managing across a diverse and sophisticated customer base.

What you’ll do:

  • Build the organization to account for large growth in volume. This includes recruiting and hiring a multitude of new and existing positions
  • Build strong brand recognition in underserved markets
  • Incremental and profitable business growth in the United States while maintaining stability of long-term business relationships
  • Monitor external and internal customer feedback to measure performance and identify strategies to drive process improvement
  • Lead directors and regional sales managers for all Atkore plastic water pipe products
  • Establish rewards and recognition programs to enhance performance production
  • Develop sales objectives, strategies, advertising and promotions as well as developing and evaluating new product ideas to meet the organizations growth objectives
  • Develop sales reports and report out results with acceleration and gap closure plans to key stakeholders and top management
  • Develop and implement go to market strategy in different end use markets, including agent strategies vs. company sales employees
  • Design and execute strategy on how to work with end users on specification work while supporting the go to market strategy of selling through distributors
  • Develop strategies for how Product Managers specializing in end use markets interact with Regional Sales Manager selling all products in a region

The ideal candidate will:

  • Possess clear understanding of the waterworks, plumbing, industrial and irrigation markets and the entire value chain, including agency representation, channel partners, contractors and A&E firms
  • Demonstrate a proven track record in water/plumbing industry
  • Strong management and leadership skills
  • Personable, good communicating and problem solving skills, adaptable, process and results oriented while being humble and puts the team first.
  • Hold accountable director sales activity, track account penetration, and account revenue status by brand, product class and in total.
  • Develop a market-based business plan and sales strategy to ensure attainment of company sales goals, profitability and team accountability.
  • Plan should include the following:
    • Staffing requirements, including recruitment, and assigned locations
    • Sales goals by quarter and by fiscal year
    • Sales goals by product line & brand
    • Weekly one-on-one call with each direct report and agents to review their performance, discuss open issues, and provide coaching and guidance
    • Establish and track accountability expectations across all levels
    • Identify market opportunities and deploy sales resources accordingly
    • Provide ongoing, open communication regarding company initiatives and strategy
    • Initiate and coordinate development of action plans and sales deployment to penetrate markets
    • Influence SBU, BU and Corporate leaders to deploy necessary resources and initiatives to obtain goals.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of marketing plans
  • Ensure directors and RSMs have productive working relationships with agents, distributors and customers.
  • Talent Management – Spearhead the recruitment, motivation, development of the sales management team and instill a culture of accountability, performance-based management, teamwork and other best practices to achieve the goals of the organization.
  • Monitor, evaluate and provide feedback to managers on progress towards goals. Coach and develop management in balancing the delivery of high productivity, quality and customer service.
  • Lead and facilitate change management in support of organizational goals.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Management, Manufacturing, and/or related discipline.
  • Must have a minimum 7-10 years of sales management experience in B2B market segment.

  • Proven track record of success in effectively managing across a diverse and sophisticated customer base.
  • In-depth understanding of the key components of the sales and business marketing functions with a background of achievement in strategic and business planning, sales & profit growth and financial management.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and professional interactive skills, as well as strong presentation, negotiation closing and time management skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to build, grow and inspire individuals and teams and manage effectively up, down and across an organization.
  • Collaborative management style. Work alongside individual team members as a day-to-day partner in moving the business forward, holding individuals and teams accountable for forecasts and other sales objectives.
  • Delegates responsibilities effectively. Recognizes and acknowledges the value others bring to the organization. Exhibits a high level of trust and accountability.
  • Must have experience working with contractors
  • Must be willing and able to work remotely and travel at least 75% of the time
  • A proven track record of succeeding against set targets.
