Overview

In IPC the Business Relationship Manager provides the interface between the business unit/area assigned and the EPMO. By doing so, the Business Relationship Manager aligns the delivery of solutions, capabilities or other project work with the operational and strategic goals and priorities of the business unit.

The Business Relationship Manager is the contact point for business leadership and senior stakeholders for any type of program/project (Business or Technology). The Business Relationship Manager acts as a conduit for their interests and objectives, while equally serving as a channel of engagement and communications from the EPMO to the respective business unit or area.

The Business Relationship Manager helps business leaders identify and formulate initiatives, proposals, and business cases to achieve their objectives.

The Business Relationship Manager also maintains alignment with the Technology environment and strategy by creating awareness and understanding of current and future technological capabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships with the business unit’s leadership team, key executives, and other stakeholders. Provide Technology Services organization with an ongoing understanding of how best to meet business objectives.
  • Facilitate and coordinate the efforts of the business unit leaders to identify and establish the best possible set of initiatives and projects aligned with their priorities, goals, and objectives.
  • Identify gaps between customer needs and technology capabilities and work to find innovative solutions to those gaps for projects that require technology solutions
  • Engage with business unit executives. Conduct quarterly reviews with them — or at other intervals as specified to maintain insights into business strategies. Assist in reprioritizing to meet business unit needs as required.
  • Identify and suggest reviews of any significant business unit initiatives or projects that are challenged. This will help determine whether they should continue, be significantly changed, placed on hold, or discontinued.
  • Work with other Business Relationship Managers and EPMO staff to identify enterprise-wide efficiencies and synergistic opportunities.
  • Participate in development and ongoing maintenance of EPMO collateral, materials, documentation, workshops, and other artifacts. This will ensure consistency in business unit engagement and interaction with the EPMO.
  • Support good financial stewardship in business units by highlighting any issues arising from the performance of individual projects. This will help to ensure the on-plan use and consumption of resources and funding.
  • Take charge of the development and maintenance of communications and reporting related to the projects of the business units.
  • Partner with EPMO Senior Director, Business Units and VP of Technology to develop and maintain multi-year business capability roadmaps.
  • Partner with business transformation teams (change management) to ensure effective business transformation for all initiatives
  • Be creative and innovative with regards to your knowledge and awareness of IT industry trends and digital advances as they relate to new opportunities and business needs.

  • Business Demand Management - Strong assessment and decision skills to understand, evaluate and prioritize including benefit realization.
  • Experience with change management.
  • Strong business acumen, including industry, domain-specific knowledge of the organization and its business units. Familiarity with industry trends and innovation.
  • Excellent analytical, collaboration and facilitation skills.
  • Effective influencing and negotiation experience and skills in an environment with fierce competition for resources among business units.
  • A high degree of political sensitivity and astuteness. The ability to effectively use the organization’s informal power structure to best represent the business unit.
  • A high degree of empathy. The ability to apply different engagement styles to match the needs of a variety of business stakeholders, as well as temperaments and personalities.
  • Familiarity with the use of reporting tools to monitor activities and analyze project performance.
  • Familiarity with one or more project/program management methodologies (such as PMI PMBOK, PRINCE2, Agile and MSP), ideally across a range of projects.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 10+ years of industry experience – Supply chain, distribution, logistics, procurement, CRM, and finance.
  • 5+ years demonstrating increasing responsibilities across business/technology projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing business relationships and engaging business executives and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience across the full project life cycle, from initiative identification through to completion.
  • Technical aptitude, requirements management, and the ability to assess and articulate risk variables.
  • Ability to communicate across the full range of stakeholders from business executives to technical delivery resources.
  • Experience marketing new IT capabilities to the business.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple critical and competing demands.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in information systems, business administration or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Program Management and/or Business Relationship Management training/certification.

This job does not require international travel. Occasionally, local travel within driving distance, and overnight domestic travel may be required.

Hours of Operation

This is a full-time position. Standard office hours of Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM EST. This position may require additional work hours outside these work hours, including weekends to complete job requirements.
