Summary/Objective

The key account manager is a professional responsible for maintaining and expanding relationships with strategic clients or customers. This involves regular communication, understanding a customer’s business objectives, and delivering presentations of CORE products and services. The key account manager will cultivate long-term partnerships and drive customer satisfaction, while positioning CORE for profitable, long term growth and profitable revenue generation.

Essential
Functions:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and advocate for key accounts, ensuring that their supply needs are met or exceeded. This includes understanding and addressing customer needs, concerns, and escalations, and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Work closely with internal cross-functional teams such as sales, marketing, product development, and customer support to ensure the successful delivery of products or services to key accounts. This may involve coordinating resources, addressing client concerns, and providing feedback to internal stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers across multiple functions, including purchasing, quality manufacturing and engineering. Strong focus on customer retention and expanding the business within key accounts. This involves identifying opportunities for contract renewals, upselling or cross-selling additional products or services, and ensuring long-term customer loyalty.
  • Utilize consultative sales techniques to develop a thorough understanding of a customer’s needs and requirements, and prepare a customized solution to help the customer meet their performance goals.
  • Lead contract negotiations and manage the contractual relationship with key accounts. This includes negotiating pricing, terms, and conditions, as well as ensuring compliance with contract obligations.
  • Become industry expert of market dynamics, competitive analysis, and Company capability in one or more assigned market segments. Research prospective markets and specific companies to assess opportunities for promoting and selling the Company’s products. Develop business cases advocating selected markets, and land new multi-million-dollar opportunities annually.
  • Monitor and report on market and competitor activities, and provide relevant reports and information. Track and analyze key account performance, including sales metrics, revenue growth, and customer satisfaction (e.g. scorecards, VOC). This helps in identifying areas for improvement, developing strategies to mitigate risks, and making data-driven business decisions.
  • Support new program launches by monitoring and actively participating in launch-related project planning, team meetings and production trials, leading those activities as necessary, to ensure successful and timely launches.
  • Develop and deliver presentations of Company products and services in response to specific customer requests (e.g., technical, quality, economic), and proactively to develop new opportunities.
  • Participate in relevant industry and market-specific trade shows and other events designed to highlight Company capabilities and attract the interest of targeted customers.
  • Develop outstanding cross-functional working relationships with Company personnel at all levels.
  • Learn and proactively communicate customer standards for suppliers to Company personnel.
  • Use a variety of customer contact and activities tools and systems, and update relevant information held in these systems. Record, report, analyze and administer according to established requirements. (e.g. customer portals, contract acknowledgements, certifications, surveys, etc.)
  • When necessary, escalate problems to appropriate levels of Core management, balancing the need to avoid negative commercial consequences with a desire to protect peer relationships.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not directly supervise employees. However, communication and
coordination across all internal departments and customer functions makes this a critically important role.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional manufacturing office and manufacturing shop floor environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee might occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday. This position requires regularly long hours and weekend work.

Travel
Air and car travel are normal procedures during the business day, and infrequently during the weekends. Overnight travel is expected with a frequency up to 40%.

Required Education Skills and
Experience:
Required:
(a)
Four-year degree from an accredited college in an engineering, science or business discipline; or, equivalent work experience (at least 4 years relevant work with a concentration in manufacturing).
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience selling engineered products (manufactured products based on customer provided prints and specs) to OEMs with long (>1 year) sales cycles.
  • Demonstrated experience in market analysis, customer opportunity identification, competitive assessments, business case development
Preferred:
(a)
Four-year degree in engineering, science or business discipline; or MBA degree.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience selling engineered solutions to multi-million-dollar, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) accounts.

Skills and Knowledge Required:
  • Strong negotiation and leadership skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Read, interpret, and understand product design, prints, data, specifications, and customer requirements. Understanding of concepts related to nested Bills of Materials, engineering blueprints, tolerancing and inspection schemes, and the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • Willingness and demonstrated ability to understand and communicate with customers the tooling and manufacturing processes necessary to produce engineered product.
  • Demonstrated ability to work through commercial aspects of working with an OEM: contracts, terms, commitments, invoicing, purchase orders, etc.
  • Hands-on experience developing and communicating customer cost transparencies.
  • Ability to establish and manage productive relationships cross functionally with customer purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, and quality personnel.
  • Demonstrated analytical approach to solving problems and exploring new opportunities.
  • Ability to influence and persuade others who are not direct reports.
  • Demonstrated prospecting skills: ability to research active companies within defined market segments, identify key commercial contacts, proactively make contact and establish productive dialogue.
  • Highly competent writing skills, with the ability to prepare business letters and proposals summarizing complex issues.
  • Skilled in making oral presentations to audiences of strangers at all management levels.
  • Understanding of profit and loss calculations and basic business finance (gross and variable margin concepts and calculations, depreciation, overhead expenses, capital investment, and “cost of money” concepts).
  • Project management competency to include ability to manage multiple tasks and long-range deadlines simultaneously.
  • Capable of presenting a professional image of the Company, both in appearance and conduct.
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MRP/ERP, and web-enabled databases.
