Do you have a passion for indoor plants? We are seeking a full-time Nursey Specialist to oversee the day-to-day activities at the McGuckin Hardware indoor nursey. The ideal candidate has knowledge on how to keep the plants thriving, a professional sales associate to sell the plants as well as the ability to coaching co-workers and customers on plant care.

Full-time positions work 32 hours a week or more. Working one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) is required.

All full-time employees are eligible for a comprehensive benefit package, to include medical, dental and vision insurance, a matching 401k, free life insurance, paid time off - accrued sick and vacation time, paid holidays and a store discount.

You are eligible for a $250 signing bonus after 6 months of full-time work.

Position Summary

To assist customers with excitement and education regarding their product questions and purchases. To provide exceptional, courteous and competent customer service to all customers and guests.

Must be articulate and able to explain houseplant care in concise and relatable thoughts.

Demonstrable experience with house plant varieties and their care requirements in Colorado/Boulder homes.

Demonstrable knowledge of houseplant pests, diseases, and other deficiencies and is able to advise customers on remediation of houseplant ailments.

Also important to this position is the creative ability to merchandise the space with products that could be sold as add-on sales opportunities.

Essential Job Functions

Level Three “Entry” Associate:

  • Report to work on time and as scheduled
  • Walk the aisles in the department as well as adjacent aisles and greet all customers within 30 feet with a positive attitude
  • Show enthusiasm, willingness and interest in assisting the customer in finding what they need
  • Walk customers to adjoining departments when you are unable to answer their question(s); stay and listen for the response
  • Maintain knowledge of the assigned merchandise and products in your department
  • Take the initiative to learn about new products as they become available and look for opportunities to “add-on” sales of related items
  • Take inventory of the stock levels on a daily basis and replenish items that are low. Ensure items are priced correctly, ticketed and rotated, maintain bin levels and back-tag
  • Stock incoming merchandise from receiving in a timely and efficient manner (must be able to safely lift 25-50 pounds)
  • Communicate with buyers on inventory levels of merchandise in the department, customer comments or suggestions
  • Answer the phone and register pages in a timely manner for your assigned department
  • Approve returns of unopened, non-defective products <$100
  • Be self-motivated to acquire product knowledge via reading labels, taking training, talking to buyers, etc.
  • Handle general housekeeping and organizational duties within the department; dust and clean shelves, make sure product labels are facing forward and ensure shelves look stocked
  • Acquire any department-specific technical skills (e.g., learn to use the paint mixer) and be able to safely operate required equipment and/or machinery

Present yourself well; you must always be presentable when waiting on customers. Maintain a clean and neat appearance in adherence with the store’s dress code policy

Must be able to stand on feet and climb a ladder.

Education/Experience

Less than high school education; certification or related experience or training is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Math Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have functional technical knowledge of Excel, including the ability to manipulate data on spreadsheets. Experience on Eagle/Epicure preferred but not required.
