Position Summary:

Our Hotel Sales Manager will negotiate, contracts and close on large and/or complex group accounts, successfully achieve personal and team revenue goals, develop and implement creative sales strategies all while having a solid understand of our market trends and guest preferences. All duties are to be performed in accordance with federal, state, local laws, regulations, and ordinances, as well as department and Company policies, practices, and procedures, within the framework and intent of the MGM Grand Detroit.

Essential Functions:

  • Achieve/exceed revenue goals by proactively soliciting accounts in assigned market and effectively responding to incoming inquires providing excellent guest service.
  • Works directly with client on client on achieving clients meeting objectives by presenting creative and custom offers that are inline with hotel revenue strategies.
  • Develops and implements a creative sales strategy by analyzing historical, current and future hotel/market/account trends.
  • Understands overall market including economic trends, competitive set, demand, and customer preferences and know how to modify sales activities to position MGM Grand Detroit as market leader.
  • Manages all aspects of group bookings, corporate meetings, and other assigned events on behalf of the hotel.
  • Solicits, negotiates and confirms new and repeat business through trade shows, FAMs, outside sales calls, telemarketing, direct mail, referrals, networking, and prospecting to maximize revenues to meet/exceed goals.
  • Maintains consistent verbal and written communication with clients to manage sales/booking cycle.
  • Conducts customized, creative site inspections.
  • Develops presentations and presents to groups and individuals.
  • Plans sales trips including travel reports (pre/post), setting sales calls, and entertainment.
  • Up-sells each business opportunity to maximize revenue opportunity.
  • Understands revenue management functions and account profitability.
  • Ensures business is turned over accurately and timely for proper service delivery to Conference Services.
  • Develops budgets and projections for assigned market segment(s).
  • Develops and continually enhances relationships with key corporate, association and travel industry accounts within assigned market.
  • Coordinates customer specifications with other departments and responds to customer concerns to ensure a quality experience and enhances future sales prospects. Attends pre and post convention meetings to obtain feedback and understand group needs.
  • Develops and continually enhances relationships with key local leaders to build support and recognition within assigned markets.
  • Supervises/Manages Sales Coordinators to include efficient staffing, team member development and training, performance management and policy enforcement.
  • Basic knowledge of food trends, food and beverage composition and menu planning.
  • Promotes and maintains the highest level of customer service to all guests while staying alert to their needs. Monitoring the effective resolution of guest concerns.
  • Ensures expenses are controlled and managed.
  • Resolves guest complaints within scope of management and/or Security of all unusual events, circumstances, missing items, or alleged theft.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned, to meet business needs and to support MGM Grand Detroit business and community goals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 21 years of age or older.
  • High School diploma or equivalent. Two year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management or related field preferred.
  • Four years of progressive experience in hospitality sales with three years supervisory/management experience; preferred large group sales.
  • Experience in multi-tasking of projects and project management.
  • Able to produce new ideas and process by applying imaginative skills and creative thinking.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Access and Power Point and Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, or divide quickly and correctly.
  • Working knowledge of liquor control procedures and basic food handling and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to travel 20% of required time.
  • Excellent guest service and hospitality skills.
  • Strong analytical and listening skills.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to function and act independently.
  • Ability to work well with people, in a team environment, and to communicate effectively both written & oral.
  • Ability to function in a fast paced environment, under short time constraints, and within established deadlines.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Obtain/maintain Michigan Gaming Control Board Level 2 Occupational License.
