The Managing Director, Business Development plays a lead role in establishing and driving Babson Executive and Enterprise Education's (BEEE) strategy in the global marketplace. The Managing Director is specifically responsible for: leading a team of business development professionals; leading a set of integrated business development and marketing activities that support BEE's lines of business; driving revenue generation in accordance with organizational strategy and goals; conveying BEE's capabilities to key clients and business partners; being an expert on industry trends; and enhancing BEEE's competitive position by collaborating with faculty, college marketing, the graduate school, and research centers to shape a market-driven portfolio of products and services.
Recognized as one of the world's top providers of customized executive education, BEEE is one of the three main divisions of Babson College. Its global client base includes corporations, entrepreneurs, educational institutions, foundations, non-profits, governments and NGOs; and client solutions include custom programs, open enrollment programs, blended and online programs. BEEE offers the longest-standing and most well-known program for teaching entrepreneurship educators, the Price-Babson Symposium for Entrepreneurship Educators, and BEEE offers numerous other programs for entrepreneurship educators and business organizations throughout the world.

Essential Responsibilities
• Oversee the day-to-day management of the business development team, ensuring that speculative requests from prospective clients are dealt with professionally, effectively, and appropriately.
• Work with the business development team to establish annual goals for revenue generation, profitability, and prospecting strategies and activities across business lines.
• As needed, support the business development team by reviewing and preparing proposals for prospective and established clients, and working closing with members of the team to close sales and transition to program management function.
• Where appropriate, take personal responsibility for proactively generating new global business prospects in line with BEEE strategy.
• In collaboration with BEEE Dean and Human Resources, establish and implement incentive plans to drive sales performance.
• Monitor customer, market and competitor activity to inform strategic direction and determine current and future market opportunities.
• Identify needs and opportunities for new product development, and work collaboratively to shape a market-driven portfolio of products and services.
• Lead efforts to develop internal and external strategic alliances and partnership opportunities that support both client acquisition and program delivery. This includes working collaboratively with internal Babson stakeholders to identify and leverage cross-college sales channels, and establishing a network of external service providers and marketing partners through which BEEE may extend its reach and capacity for global program delivery.
• Work closely with college and BEEE marketing to ensure consistent and appropriate messaging, and to create effective marketing strategies and tactics to support growth in the business.
• Collaborate with BEEE Dean and Associate Dean of Finance & Administration to insure pricing meets profitability hurdles.
• Annually, establish a strategic and operational plan for the business development function that aligns and integrates with marketing goals and plans.
• Assume additional responsibilities including new initiatives and program development as needed.

Job Requirements
Education Requirements:
Minimum Level of Education Required Bachelor's Degree

Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements:
• 15-20+ years of relevant experience in consultative sales and/or business development with a proven record of success selling high-priced, intangible/conceptual products with long sales cycles.
• Previous experience as a leader and motivator of global sales and business development teams.
• Proven ability to interact and negotiate effectively with domestic and international senior leaders from the business, education and public sectors.
• Must have strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must be financially literate in understanding pricing models and hurdles for profitability
• Must have an understanding of how to use marketing function in the service of business development
• Must have knowledge and experience with CRM software and application.
• Must be collaborative in approach and open to new concepts and ideas as well as a strong desire to contribute and work collaboratively to achieve goals.
• Must be independent, self-confident, and highly credible in representing BEEE and Babson College.
• Ability to work in diverse, complex, rapidly changing, deadline driven environment.
• Ability to create an environment where direct reports have the freedom and security to take initiative; deal with complexities with resilience, resourcefulness, and optimism; and appreciate open mindedness, creativity, and agility in thought and tactics.

Working Conditions:
• Ability to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as needed to meet client demands.
• Ability to travel globally
• Must have had a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver's License for one year, and maintain throughout employment an insurable (as determined by the College's insurer's criteria) or a satisfactory driving record; must successfully complete and pass the College's vehicle training program within the first 60 days of employment; annual or more frequent review of employee's driving record based on the College insurer's criteria; and safety training as required by management.

Additional Required Skills & Abilities
• MBA or other advanced degree in related field preferred.
• Knowledge of adult learning principles and practices preferred.
• Experience living and working outside North America preferred.
