Chicago may be cold in winter, but the sales job market is blazing. Technical sales companies like Morningstar and UrbanBound are expanding, and transportation sales and utilities sales are, too. Construction sales jobs, finance sales jobs as well as manufacturing sales jobs all added new jobs this year. Chicago is the home headquarters to some huge companies. Crate & Barrel was founded there in 1962 and now has a chain of more than 170 stores specializing in housewares, furniture and homes accessories. Founded in Chicago in 1844, Pabst Brewing Company has dozens of malt liquor and American beer brands including Colt 45, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Schlitz, Old Milwaukee and Old Style which continue to have a loyal following to this day. Walgreens, Sears Holdings, Groupon and the Oprah Winfrey Network, are all headquartered in Chicago. These companies are always looking for talented, committed people, to represent their companies.

The Windy City is the third-most-populated city in the United States, with more than 2.7 million people spread across 237 square miles. There are 552 parks and famous landmarks such as the Willis Tower (formerly known as the Sears Tower), Navy Pier and The Bean (which is actually called Cloud Gate). It can be an expensive place to live with a 10.25% combined state and local sales tax, a 2.25 % sales grocery tax, a .25 % restaurant tax and the second-highest property tax in the nation. With that said, there is an abundance of sales career opportunities to boost your income. Chicago is known for its beautiful and bold architecture, museums and deep-dish pizza. The stunning skyscrapers were invented in Chicago and with new ones opening all the time, the architecture scene there will only continue to grow. Builders, construction materials, corporate real estate sales are all in high demand. North Michigan Avenue was given the name the Magnificent Mile in the 1940s due to the prestigious commercial presence on that street in those days. Today it still lives up to that name offering some of the best retail luxury shopping brands. These brands need buyers and the stores need top notch sales people - the sales job opportunities are endless. And if your new sales job involves air travel, you are in luck - unlike New York City, Los Angeles or Boston, Chicago is centrally located for quick flights around the country.

The nice thing about Chicago is that while it is a 'big city' like New York City, it's located in the Midwest, which means, mix New York hustle with Midwestern generosity and you get Chicagoans. They welcome everyone with their down to earth, friendly, hardworking attitude and love to share their passion and pride for their city. Networking and making new friends might be a little easier in this city than some of the other big cities. But this doesn't mean you shouldn't do your research, plan your sales job search strategy and network - those things are still extremely important and necessary for the success of your sales job search.
