JOB DESCRIPTION

Newsday Account Executive - Local Retail Sales

 

Responsible for managing and growing revenue in assigned territory &/or categories for the Advertising team.

 

Essential Duties & Functions

  • Negotiate and close new business with clients and agencies within key territory &/or categories as assigned.
  • Meet monthly & annual sales goals including revenue, new business, account retention & digital.
  • Develop marketing strategies for accounts that include integrated print, online, digital marketing services and events.
  • Customize highly effective advertising campaigns and presentations to meet client’s needs and budget constraints.
  • Strategize with clients and internal resources on positioning, premiums and merchandising to ensure media buys maximize the clients’ return on investment.
  • Coordinate inquiries, media kits, marketing data and presentations, sales material requests, rate questions, etc. for clients and agencies.
  • Retain existing accounts and up sell them into products and services that meet their individual needs.
  • Prospect and secure new accounts by developing pipelines for each Newsday product and services.
  • Monitors competitive media and identifies opportunities to increase market share.
  • Conducts needs assessment interviews with clients and prospects to develop customer driven solutions.
  • Analyzes sales performance to goal and forecast anticipated media sales for upcoming periods.
  • Composes letters and proposals as required; negotiate frequency media buys and contracts where appropriate.
  • Communicates effectively to provide outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Participates in business associations and chambers of commerce within territory and or categories as assigned.
  • Partner with Finance on Credit, Collections and Billing Issues.

 

Essential Job Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, business or related preferred.
  • 4 to 8 years’ experience of advertising sales preferably with an emphasis on local sales.
  • Knowledge of and ability to sell various digital media services including SEM, SEO, social media marketing, e-email marketing, reputation management and website offerings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the full sales life cycle from the client, buyer and agency position.
  • Strong knowledge of local media market a must to track competition and leverage Newsday Media Group’s core product.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to present research and proposals clearly in person, via the phone, computer and e-mail.
  • Ability to sell multiple products and generate new business.
  • Aptitude to meet or exceed revenue goals.
  • Capability to develop relationships with clients in person via the phone, virtually and e-mail.
  • Strong follow through and relationship building skills.
  • Proven experience developing integrated advertising programs required.
  • Excellent negotiation and customer service skills a must to close new business and retain existing account basis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • On a regular basis, exercise administrative judgment and assume responsibility for decisions, consequences and results having an impact on people, costs and/or quality of service within functional area.
  • Partner with Production department and ad operations & client solutions department to serve the needs of clients.
  • Partner with Finance for ad booking, collections, credit, and billing concerns.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills and the ability to interpret and utilize research to develop and support solution-based programs for customers.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce a plus
  • Ability to drive to client locations and other related site visits.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be willing to travel up to 75% of the time in the designated territory.
  • Driver’s license in good standing required.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with clients, must be able to accurately exchange information, and facilitate presentations in person & via computer (zoom meetings).
  • Ability to utilize a computer keyboard, computer monitor, and telephone for prolonged periods of time.
