The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is a professional membership organization that works to promote high-quality early learning for all young children, birth through age 8, by connecting early childhood practice, policy, and research. NAEYC advances a diverse, dynamic early childhood profession and supports all who care for, educate, and work on behalf of young children.

NAEYC seeks a visionary sales leader to join our team as the Business Developer. In addition to requisite passion, skills and experience, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a measurable track record in building and managing high performing sales campaigns within the infant and toddler, PreK and K-3 markets. Reporting to the Senior Director for Member Experience and Market Solutions, this position will be able to leverage an understanding of NAEYC as a nonprofit, mission-driven leader in early childhood education and will be able to position the organization's market solutions. NAEYC's market solutions include group membership, books, journals, magazines, professional learning modules, and accreditation of early learning programs. These solutions must be positioned to meet the needs and demands of the field in advance of NAEYC's vision and mission as a professional membership organization. The role involves consultative selling to execute strategy and increase market penetration within the team selling environment. As the team lead, the manager is accountable to meet or exceed individual revenue budgets while fostering team collaboration. A major factor in rating performance is based upon meeting individual and team revenue goals and developing new business.

Manages one direct report.


  • Building NAEYC's sales program for all market solutions
  • Partner with product managers and marketing to develop sales strategies and materials
  • Develop new business for product lines and portfolio sales approach
  • Provide essential market feedback to product managers for product pricing, enhancement and new products or supports
  • Support management and product managers with customer feedback, industry trends, and state mandates or governing principles for NAEYC to stay competitive within the marketplace
  • Collaborate on annual and quarterly sales goals for product lines
  • Meet and exceed sales goals
  • Manage a growing team of sales associates


Travel required


Training and Experience:

  • 4-6 years successful outside sales experience required

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • 4-year college degree (Business, Marketing or Education preferred) or equivalent work experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on Excel and Powerpoint
  • Proficiency in the use of CRM
  • Sales Process Skills time management, territory management, financial management and question and probing skills.
  • Skilled in coaching and mentoring a team
  • Knowledge of educational structures and ability to sell to multiple decision makers at multiple levels a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Demonstrates ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external constituents
