EarthShare is headquartered in Bethesda, MD. A secondary office is in Columbus, OH. If the candidate does not live in the DC metro or Columbus area, the candidate will be eligible to work remotely from their home.


We’re looking for a candidate who will work with the SVP, Business Development to secure Earth Share’s access to new corporate business partnerships in building employee engagement in sustainability, cause marketing and workplace philanthropy programs.  The Director, Business Development will work with the SVP, Business Development, chapter and affiliate representatives, and key stakeholders to develop a robust inventory of qualified leads and maximize the development, cultivation and activation of corporate partnership engagements. 



National Sales

This position will work closely with the SVP of National Business Development to develop short and long-term national sales objectives and plans, and will share responsibility for implementing and achieving those objectives. As part of that work, the Director will collaborate on forecast revenues and staffing requirements that take into account business trends; design and deliver systems that provide critical business development measurements; resolve system problems and identify opportunities for improvement.


Responsibilities include creating annual sales goals and performance objectives, developing and managing an ongoing national prospect pipeline, prospect research, securing and conducting sales meetings, ensuring the engagement of EarthShare member organizations in sales participation, maintenance of sales records and moves management, and contributing to an increase in program revenue.

Program Strategy and Development

The candidate will innovate with the Business Development team on enhancements and new strategies for new business model developments. They will identify and pursue strategic partner collaborations that contribute to developing the prospect pipeline and/or access to new program offerings that will augment the programmatic value add.

Manage Lead Generation with EarthShare Chapter Representatives

The candidate will work with Chapter representatives to develop their prospect pipelines and moves management processes and associated research; and secure prospect meetings and develop the sales strategy for each prospect. They will take the lead in all sales meetings and manage follow up, proposal development and closing.


Position Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of corporate business development experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred and/or directly related professional skills and experience.
  • Proven record of successful sales outcome; solid experience coordinating sales and related activities; managing, reporting, proposal and budget development and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of the corporate landscape, communications/marketing attributes, and demonstrated ability in developing relationships that foster commitment and growth. 
  • Strategic and analytic thinker with a proactive, hands-on approach; relationship building and management skills.
  • Capable and willing to travel (up to 35% time); must live in close proximity of a major airport.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality required.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs. Tech-savvy and proficient with financial systems, SalesForce or other CRM platform.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous supervisory and teamwork experience.
  • Knowledge of corporate social responsibility (CSR), sustainability and environmental issues, and fundraising best practices.

  • Knowledge of employee engagement
  • Some experience with design platforms an advantage (e.g. Canva).
