The Senior Tax Analyst reports directly to the AVP Sales Tax and is primarily responsible for providing support on more complex aspects of the Sales Tax area. This primarily includes timely and effectively managing state tax audits and appeals to minimize the company’s exposure and costs. The candidate will also perform analyses of tax-related regulations and publications to ensure continued compliance with state and local rules. The Tax Analyst will perform technical research, prepare complex calculations, draw accurate conclusions, and work to implement change for compliance and continuous improvement. Additional responsibilities include:

• Fielding and fulfilling requests of state auditors timely and effectively
• Analyzing and reconciling financial statement accounts in accordance with internal controls and accounting principles
• Partnering closely with the AVP, Manager of Sales Tax to continuously research, evaluate, and strategize for applicable legal and industry developments
• Engaging with business partners in Finance, IT, Merchandising, Marketing, etc. to pursue efficiencies and cost savings
• Working independently on special projects (technical research, cross functional initiatives, etc.) as needed

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required, Master’s Degree or CPA a plus
• 5-10 years of relevant corporate finance or sales tax experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
• Great team player attitude and the ability to multi-task is required
• Knowledge of state and local sales tax regulations preferred
• Advanced Excel skills required, SAP (and other BJ’s systems) experience preferred
